when to
book
We recommend booking sooner rather than later, especially if you want to make a vacation out of it. Between the gorgeous blooming azaleas and the unbeatable weather (high 70s), April is one of the best (and busiest) times to visit our little town, so hotels book up quickly.
getting there
Savannah / Hilton Head
International Airport (SAV)
For those of you accustomed to flying out of big cities, the Savannah airport is going to feel like a dream. It’s easy to navigate and rarely crowded. That said, we’re in the south - so don’t be surprised if the TSA agent wants to chat your ear off for awhile.
how to get around
The airport is 11 miles (approximately 30 minutes) from Historic Downtown Savannah.
-
We recommend using Uber or Lyft to get around Savannah. At the airport, the rideshare pickup is located at the north entrance of baggage claim.
-
If you feel more comfortable with a traditional taxi, check this website to see which taxis are allowed to pick up from the Savannah airport.
-
We do not recommend renting a car in Savannah. Savannahians do not believe in stop signs, red lights, or yellow lines.
However, if you’re a brave soul, there are rental car options at the SAV airport adjacent to the main terminal building. These include Alamo, Avis, Dollar, Enterprise, Payless, National, Budget, Hertz, and Thrifty. -
Downtown, there are historic hop-on/hop-off trolleys that can help you get around town. The two most popular options are Old Savannah Tours and Old Town Trolley. These tours charge a flat fee per day, and you can hop on and off as you like. They have about 15 stops throughout town, and you can learn about points of interest along the way.
These are not available for pickup at the airport, but they’re a great option for exploring historic Savannah. -
Savannah is considered the most walkable city in America! Most sights in downtown Savannah are within walking distance from each other (although occasionally a long walk). Savannah's green, lush squares give ample room for shade and rest between blocks.
If you have any ambulatory concerns or share the clumsy-Hess gene, we do not recommend walking too much in Savannah. It’s an old city with much of its original cobblestone, tempting a twisted ankle. Uber or trolleys are a great option.
We will have free trolley rides from historic downtown Savannah to the Mackey House on April 12 for all guests.
Find the trolley list here.
