8 Movies Filmed in Savannah
Want to get in the Savannah spirit? These movies were filmed entirely or in part in Savannah! They’ll make you want to pack your bags and start exploring this quirky, gorgeous, and occasionally absurd city. So pop some corn, grab a cozy blanket, and get ready to fall in love with Savannah!
1. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
This juicy murder mystery based on a true story (and a book by the same name) gives you a crash course on Savannah’s eccentric side. Complete with glitz, glamour, and out-there characters, you'll be itching to see where all this drama went down. (The Mercer Williams house from this movie sits in Monterey Square, Alli’s favorite square in town.) Apparently The Return of Swamp Thing was also filmed at the Mercer Williams house.
2. Forrest Gump
“Life is like a box of chocolates…” The famous Forrest Gump feather and bench scene was filmed in Savannah’s own Chippewa Square. Although the bench from the movie has since been moved to a museum, the square is still a gorgeous spot to sit and ponder all the beauties of life. (Fun fact: One of Alli and Dylan’s favorite movies is Forrest Gump!)
3. Lady and the Tramp (2019)
Savannah set the stage for the gorgeous live-action, puppy-love classic Lady and the Tramp. Most of the filming occurred around Wright Square, Factor’s Walk, and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The Georgia State Railroad Museum also makes an appearance. So get ready to share a plate of spaghetti under the stars!
4. The Last Song
For Hannah Montana fans, you’ll remember well Miley’s famous Last Song, which was filmed on Tybee Island. You’ll definitely want to stroll the beach and see the sea turtle hatchlings.
5. SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge Out of Water
Didn’t expect this one, did you? Savannah once turned Broughton Street into a SpongeBob set! You’ll love Broughton Street – which is where Alli and Dylan’s welcome party takes place!
6. Something to Talk About
The famous Six Pence Pub scene in this Julia Roberts movie took place at the famous (and popular) pub in Savannah of the same name. Great for getting your British fix in one of the most European-style towns in America.
7. Glory (1989)
Calling all history buffs. Glory filmed at several Savannah landmarks, including the Georgia State Railroad Museum. It's a stirring movie that’ll give you all the patriotic feels before you dive into Savannah’s rich history.
8. Baywatch (2017)
Baywatch brought its beachy shenanigans to Tybee Island, so feel free to relive all the slow-motion running in the sand…
Enjoy your viewing, and we can’t wait to see you April 12!
