the mackey house
The Mackey House dates back to 1931,
when Harry and Mamie Martin decided to pursue their
dreams of starting a dairy farm. They purchased 440 acres of
farmland outside Savannah and 140 Jersey cows from The Biltmore
Estate in Asheville, N.C. They called it Red Gate Farms, and it became the
go-to place for dairy in the area. Harry was considered a folk hero when he
led fights to lower milk prices that eventually resulted in fair dairy prices for everyone. The property has been handed down through the family, and it now serves as an events venue, RV park, equestrian center, and more.
fun fact
When Alli, Dylan, and Kava were traveling in an RV, they stayed for two weeks at Red Gate Farms RV Park, which is on the same property as The Mackey House.
